Iguassu Falls – From across, above, and under!

Laura Stokes Avatar

The famous Iguassu Falls run for two miles along the border of Brazil and Argentina, in the Atlantic Rain Forest. The Guaraní people called the falls “u gua tsu,” or “big waters.” The waters are big!

The Brazil side offers views of the falls from the bluff across the Iguassu river. The Argentinian trail, a raised catwalk, runs across the river and along the top of the falls. To see, hear, and feel the falls, you really need to walk both trails.

And if you are crazy/adventurous, you can let your tour leader put you in a motor boat to run you upstream (through some class 2 rapids) and steer you directly under a fall.

From trip leader, Caro

Photos cannot do justice to the roar, the roiling mist, the POWER of the water as it thunders down terraced cliffs. I made a little movie. I hope it gives you a feel for this magical place. (And unlike us, you can stay dry.)

Here it is. Be sure to put it on full screen.
