Introducing Pablo Barragán, guide extraordinaire
Our OAT-led* trip began in Peru and ended in Ecuador. A guide named Pablo Barragán led the Ecuador portion.
*Overseas Adventure Travel. We’ve taken OATs safari tour in Kenya and Tanzania as well as this one. Fantastic!!
Born and raised on a farm outside of Quito, Pablo was interested in animals and the natural world from the beginning; he told us that as a small child, “most of my toys were insects.” His university degree is in biology.
Pablo has studied the mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles of Galapagos for decades. He has participated in research of the Charles Darwin Research Station, and he knows the full history of pirating, human settling, scientific research, and ecosystem protection of the islands. He and his family divide their time between homes in the Quito area and Santa Cruz island.
As a guide, Pablo not only has these bona fides, but he also exudes passion, joy, and humor as he teaches.
Ecuador and Galapagos: The Movie!
On the last evening of our trip, Pablo showed a movie he’d (already!) made of our adventures. Along with showing our wobblies at the equator* and other mainland adventures, it offers an amazing overview of life on the islands–especially the underwater worlds that Pablo captured with his GoPro.
*See my post, The Equator: a Magical Mystery Tour
***** The movie even features Amy Schliftman’s unforgettable performance of the blue-footed booby’s courting dance!
Get thee to the Galapagos!
If you haven’t toured the Galapagos yet, get on it!
Go while you can still walk on somewhat bumpy ground, climb steps, and swim/snorkel. Let the small ship rock you gently to sleep.
We highly recommend Pablo. To contact his family-run tour company: gotravelexpeditions@gmail.com.
